WHAT
WE DO
Loughton
Fencing Club meets every Wednesday evening between 7.30
pm and 9.30 pm at Loughton Sports Centre Rectory Lane Loughton
Essex.
We warm up by
using traditional sword fencing and we practise footwork exercises,
the latter being necessary to control attacks and defences during
a bout.
We then practise
sword fencing using all three weapons, foil, epee and sabre, though
the juniors tend to concentrate on foil. The juniors are at liberty
to practise epee and sabre, but these weapons are heavier than foil.
Coaching is
offered by two professional coaches, to groups, pairs and individuals.
Internal competitions
are held from time to time.

There is a great
deal of free play, which means that sword fencers can roam the hall
and challenge any fencer (not otherwise engaged) to a bout. Most
sword fencers relish free play as an opportunity to develop individual
style, which is the aim of all sword fencers.
No two nights
are the same.
The best way
to understand what we do is to "suck it and see". In other
words, come along and experience sword fencing for yourself.
